Do you remember Danny Pintauro? He is an American actor best known for playing Jonathan Bower on "Who's the Boss?" and for his role in the 1983 film, "Cujo." He is currently making headlines after his shocking confession on Saturday night's episode of "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" where he told host Oprah Winfrey that he's HIV-positive for 12 years.
Danny Pintauro started his acting career in 1982 in television programs such as "As the World Turns," "Highway to Heaven" and "Who's the Boss?" He also appeared in films including "Cujo," "The Beniker Gang" and "Timestalkers." But he took time off from acting to focus on his education in 1994. In 2001, he graduated from Stanford University with a major in English and Theater.
In 1997, Danny Pintauro revealed that he was gay in an interview with the National Enquirer. And on Saturday, the 39-year-old star went public about being an HIV-positive for the past decide. According to Variety, he was diagnosed in March 2003 while living in New York.
"I'm HIV-positive," he told Oprah Winfrey. "And I have been for 12 years."
Pintauro went into details and remembered how he felt after being diagnosed. He also admitted he was using crystal meth and experimenting sexually at the time, Daily Mirror noted.
"There's this awful feeling of, 'I'm never going to be able to have a good relationship. No one's ever going to want me,'" he said. "You've spent so much time terrified that you're going to get it, and then you have it. You don't have to be terrified anymore. It's just a big deal. It's not something that people are talking about right now really."
"I was doing crystal meth, which completely ruins your immune system," he added. "Crystal meth takes away your inhibitions. I was experimenting [sexually] and believe it or not, I thought I was being safe in that encounter."
Danny Pintauro also added that it was his "Who's the Boss" costar Judith Light who convinced him to speak about his sexuality. Now, he is living in Las Vegas with his husband Wil Tabares, who he married in April 2014 after a year-long engagement. He currently works as a restaurant manager, Daily Mail has learned.
