D'Angelo Russell Making Intense Progress Says Coach Byron Scott

D'Angelo Russell, Los Angeles Lakers' prized rookie, is making a lot of progress, according to coach Byron Scott.
In a report by Silver Screen and Roll, Lakers head coach Byron Scott spoke during Media Day about the state of the team, to be specific, what he can say about the number 2 draft pick, D' Angelo Russell.
Speaking on why Russell under-performed during the summer league, Scott said that the rookie was not 100 percent during that time and explained, "He let us know later that he had an ankle and a knee problem that was bothering him that he just never got treatment on because he wanted to play so bad." He added, "That kind of tells you about the character of the kid, too."
But now that Russell has recovered, Scott remarked that in the last three weeks of their training, he saw some things that he did not see during the NBA Summer League. The Lakers head coach said that he saw some of Russell's explosiveness and quickness.
"I saw some things that made me go 'Whoa okay.' I didn't see that from him in Summer League," said Scott.
But D'Angelo Russell doesn't mind paying the compliments forward as the rookie praised his team mate, Julius Randle, Lakers Nation has learned.
During the Lakers Media Day, Russell spoke briefly about Randle and said, "That dude is a matchup problem. A walking double-double. I can't speak highly enough about him. He's a beast, honestly."
This year's version of the Los Angeles Lakers squad is full of young talent that's clearly hungry to improve. Russell and another young team mate, Jordan Clarkson, were even spotted getting tips from street ball legend, Grayson Boucher or aka, "The Professor."
And as an effort to further improve, CBS sports reported that Russell requested to put his lockers directly beside Laker superstar, Kobe Bryant.
"I don't know how much longer he's going to be around," said Russell, "So to have the opportunity to pick his brain a little bit every day, I don't have to make it weird by walking to his locker. I'll just look to my right and there he is."
