Margaret Cho has been very outspoken about how she has suffered sexual abuse as a child and raped as a teen. Recently she has included the ghastly memories she has experienced in her new show titled “Margaret Cho - The PsyCHO Tour.”
Daily Mail reported the 46-year-old comedienne told People that it is her mission to empower other victims of rape and sexual abuse in her self-titled tour which kicked off last Oct. 1 in the U.S.
The “Fashion Police” guest host performed the song she wrote, “I Want To Kill My Rapist” at the end of every gig she held. Margaret Cho said whenever she sang it out live, her audience, especially women were “screaming and crying and singing along,” and added that they felt “unburdened” by the song.
“Sharing the suffering alleviates the burden. And that's what I'm trying to do.”
Margaret Cho was born in San Francisco to Korean parents and in her interview last September with Billboard, she revealed that between the ages of five and twelve, a friend close to the family molested her and at the age of fourteen, another acquaintance of the Cho’s raped her. It was truly a horrible moment for her childhood most especially when kids at the school where she goes to discovered what happened to her. Instead of showing sympathy, Margaret Cho was bullied and told that she “deserved to be raped” because she was fat and ugly.
That’s the major reason why Margaret Cho wanted to incorporate what she has gone through in the field where she was known for — stand up comedy. She wanted people to be aware of what is going on. Cho who had a couple of guest appearances as host in “Fashion Police” stated, “It’s a horrifying planet. Between the racism, sexism and homophobia we’re seeing every day on our news feeds — it’s an outrage. So those are the things I want to talk about in my new show,“ as per San Francisco Examiner.
People reported Margaret Cho until now has not identified the person who sexually abused her because of “complications” for the reason that she knew other possible victims from her childhood who “may not be aware that it happened,” because they were too innocent.
As she continues with her “The PsyCHO Tour” gig at Castro Theatre in San Francisco, Margaret Cho will continue to belt out “I Want To Kill My Rapist” in order to empower other victims of sexual abuse and rape.
