Happy Boss's Day

Today, October 16th is Boss’ Day in Canada and the United States. The day is to be grateful for your bosses and how they are fair and reasonable in their actions towards you. The Day stems from Patricia Bays Haroski who worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfiel, Illinois. She decided to label this day because she had forgotten her boss, who also happened to be her father’s birthday. In 1962, Illinois governor Otto Kerner registered the day officially.
National Boss’ Day has extended to other countries such as Australia, South Africa, the UK and Ireland.
Boss’ Day may be a joy if you have had a great boss. It is a time to appreciate and recognize them for the hard work and supervision they provide. However, some may not have had a good experience or impressions with and of their bosses. Proponents against Boss’ Day posit that one’s work brings value to the reputation of the boss and their job is actually a “gift” to them (centraljersey.com).
Optimistic individuals see the day as a sign of gratitude and even an opportunity to reconnect and bridge gaps of miscommunication between themselves and their bosses. It is a chance to grow in a positive relationship with your boss and recognize the work they do and see things from their perspective.
