"The King of Fighters XIV" is back and it's bringing back a beloved character.
All aboard the hype train, Gematsu reported that Andy Bogard, one of the fan-favorite characters, is returning to the franchise.
According to the report, Bogard joins the previously confirmed characters such as Leona Heidern, Chang Koehan, Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami.
The character's return was unveiled when the new trailer for the game was released. And as seen from the trailer, fans can see Andy and his proficiency in acrobatic skills, which is due to his Koppouken training.
In a report by Gear Nuke, for those just playing the series for the first time, Koppouken is an old Japanese martial art that incorporates certain elements of Karate and Ninjutsu moves. Moreover, the fighting style emphasizes on targeting vulnerable parts of the body and breaking bones.
One thing is for certain, that sounds terribly painful.
However, as noted by Destructoid, the game looks exciting, but still is a little rough around the edges. As noted, the first playable demo of the game will be shown on the floor at PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco from Dec. 5 to 6.
"The King of Fighters XIV" is the latest instalment from the hit SNK fighting game franchise that rivals other known titles from the same genre such as "Tekken" and "Street Fighter."
The first game in the series, titled "King of Fighters '94" was first released by SNK on the arcade machine that features characters from its previous fighting game series called "Fatal Fury" and the "Art of Fighting."
After the success of the game, it led to the company to release yearly instalments of the series and numbered the games according to the year they were released.
However by 2004, SNK abandoned the yearly releases of the game and named it in a more traditional manner, with the first game to the new series was entitled "The King of Fighters XI," released on 2005.
The previous instalment, aptly named "The King of Fighters XIII" was released way back in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
Apart from the games, the "King of Fighters" franchise was also adapted into film and animation, with the anime totalling four episodes.
The game's movie was an English-language live action film and was released direct-to-DVD in the U.S. in 20150.
And after six years of absence, it's about to return and judging from the preview, it looks like a solid fighting game.
"The King of Fighters XIV" is out for an exclusive release for the PlayStation 4 in 2016.
