The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the LG G3 comes in the form of a custom ROM, which was developed by an independent software developer for the smartphone.

As reported by the VC Post, the unofficial software brings a host of improvements Google has to offer — plus more of the developer's native features.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been made available to the LG G3 smartphones thanks to XDA. According to the developer, the custom ROM has almost the same features of the official build and maybe even better.

CyanogenMode 13 was effectively ported the ROM from Google Nexus 6 to G3 handsets. But, G3 models with number D850 will be the only device qualified for the U.S. version - the version mobile carrier that AT&T has.

Other models are available only available in Hong Kong and the European region with numbers D858HK and D850 respectively.

The unofficial Marshmallow OS update will solve issues on the dialer when it crashes when calling a number, messaging, gallery, airplane mode, Bluetooth, NFC, the Internet, camera, boot loop, 4G/LTE, 3G and some other major issues.

In a report by the International Business Times last month, LG has started to roll out the official version of the 6.0 Marshmallow for its smartphones, but the LG G3 version has yet to be released.

Luckily, XDA developed an alternative that is touted to be just as good, if not better than the official version.

To update your LG G3 to Android 6.0 CM13 Custom ROM, please follow these easy-to-do instructions.

1. Download the Marshmallow ROM on PC and device.

2. Turn the phone into recovery mode. If device is rooted, use Quick boot app to boot into recovery, or by pressing and holding the volume down and power buttons together for a few seconds.

3. Perform backup.

4. In TWRP recovery, select Wipe and then Advanced wipe. On the next screen select options such as Dalvik cache, System, Data and Cache. Then do a swipe on the swipe to wipe option.

5. Return to the main recovery menu once wiping task is completed and select Install then Storage.

6. Go to downloaded file's location.

7. Select the file and swipe it to begin installing.

8. When installation is done, restart device.

Before proceeding with the download, make sure to back up all necessary data, charge up phone and free enough storage to prevent interruption.

But like other unofficial updates, we warn you to do it at your own risk and also highly advise to do your research first.
