Career in Law Enforcement, Sheriff Reflects on a Great Career

Gary Maha began his career in law enforcement as a deputy in 1967. Now, he's a sheriff in his current term. He reflects on his great career and this may be something you can learn from if you're planning a career in law enforcement.
He started out as a deputy and got promoted throughout the years. He had experience as a road patrolman to a senior investigator. He also was captain and chief deputy at one point. While he was working, he also had the opportunity to broaden his knowledge by attending community college and taking up political science. To add more to his degree belt, he also took criminal justice administration in Empire State College. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
For a man with so many positive accomplishments, it's not a strange thing to see him appointed by the governor as interim sheriff.
His successful career led him to the accreditation of the Civil Bureau and re-accreditation of the Law Enforcement Bureau. He is known to install zero tolerance in under-age drinking.
To protect his men, he installed body cameras for deputies and lifesaver monitoring devices that locate missing people especially children and those with cognitive illnesses.
Being a busy guy, he was able to join the New York State Sheriff Association and remained active in other local organizations. He remains firm against dealing with drug issues in the community as well as natural disasters.
He has created a standard for public service and he indicated he does not want to be re-elected.
