Effective Ways to Handle a ‘Terror’ Boss

It is a blessing to have a boss that is there to help you do your work, not one who will boss you around like you're his personal slave. But lacking that, you don't have to act like the world is about to end. There are effective ways to deal with a difficult boss. Here are some tips that will help you deal with a difficult boss.
1. Be sure that he is really a 'bad' boss
Before doing anything, try to examine why he is so hard on you. Is he really at fault, or are you the real problem? In other words, before you scrutinize your superior's 'mistakes,' examine yourself first and see if there's nothing wrong with your work or your attitude.
2. Try to understand where your boss is coming from
You need to look at the world in the eyes of your boss, so to speak. He may be hard on you because of the pressure he gets from his superiors, and not because he dislikes you. Or perhaps, he is nice in his good days, and 'cranky' in his bad days. Just try not to get in his way during his bad moments.
3. Look at his criticism positively
Being on the bad end of criticism makes you feel bad. But not all criticisms are bad. In fact, there is good in every criticism. So, if you receive critical remarks from your boss, take it in stride. Don't feel bad about it because his remarks may contain something that you could use in bettering yourself.
4. Never let it affect your work
If you let your 'bad' boss affect your work, only you will suffer. Just keep on doing what you are supposed to do to the best of your ability and let the results show what kind of employee you really are.
