Real Betis stunned Real Madrid with an early goal and potentially leaves the La Liga title defender 11 points behind leader Barcelona should they win the match on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho's team had a disappointing start in the new La Liga season, being able to win only one out of the first four games. Although they later won all but one match in the next eight games, they were still 8 points behind Barcelona. Under the leadership of new manager Tito Vilanova, Barca had won eleven out of twelve games, with the only draw actually coming from a home match against Real Madrid.

Betis midfielder Benat scored the only goal of the match at 17 minutes, as he picked up Angel Di Maria's failed clearance at the edge of the penalty area before striking the ball into the bottom left corner. Khedira was also responsible for not trying to tackle Benat and allowed him to have enough space to score.

Mourinho made several changes after half time by replacing Ozil and Khedira with Kaka and Modric respectively in order to boost the attack up front. However, Los Blancos failed to turn the chances into any goal.

he third loss of the season dealt another blow to Real Madrid's La Liga title defense, as they will be 11 points behind Barcelona if the current league leaders manage to secure an away win against Levante on Sunday. At the same time, they must win in the next local derby against Atletico Madrid next weekend in order to keep their title defense alive.
