By Staff Reporter | Dec 15, 2012 09:44 PM EST
At least 27 people were killed after a 20 year old gunman opened fire on them in what has been described as one of the worst school shooting incidents in America. The tragedy occurred in the quiet town of Newtown, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary school. Among the 27 fatalities, 20 of them were children whose ages were said to be from five to ten years old. The suspect was identified as Adam Lanza, a resident of Newtown.
The gunman had entered the school and began opening fire on two classrooms as horrified students and teachers tried to hide under their desks and closets. Authorities also reported that the suspect had killed his own mother in their home before he drove off to Sandy Hook and began his murderous rampage. The suspect’s mother was identified as Nancy Lanza, a teacher at the said school where the shooting took place.
As of Friday 10:00PM EST, the bodies of those who were killed were still inside the school. The gunman was found already dead inside the school and is believed to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound. With less than a couple of weeks to go before Christmas, this will forever go down as one of the darkest days in the history of this quiet little town in Connecticut.
