It appears that "Switched at Birth" will not be returning for its sixth season. Even the showrunners and the network relayed that the series will only run till its fifth season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, "Series creator and executive producer Lizzy Weiss announced Friday on Twitter that the upcoming fifth season of the Freeform drama will be its last."
The news was even guaranteed by the showrunners. Even Weiss stated, "We are ending the show after an amazing 103 episodes with pride, love, and gratitude," and even one of the representative for Freeform (formerly ABC Family) confirmed the news and said the 10-episode season will conclude with a special 90-minute finale, as further added by the same post.
The show was first aired last June 2011 where it garnered more than 3.3 million in total viewers and a 1.3 during its demo rating. Meanwhile, its season 4 finale drew more than 840,000 viewers and 0.4 rating.
Although the numbers have declined, it was still able to sustain and keep up with the rising competition within the TV industry. Moreover, despite the confirmations being rendered that the show would last for only five seasons, even the premiere date for its season 5 remains unsettled even today.
It is not yet clear how how season 5 of "Switched at Birth" would fare. Consecutively, there are too many hurdles to overcome by the showrunners and ensure that the finale season would bring forth memorable memories for the loyal viewers to see and enjoy.
