It appears that Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg and the "Ballers" team are in for a bumby ride. Reports claimed that a $200 million lawsuit was filed recently.
Los Angeles Times reported that "executive producers Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg's copyright lawsuit just got a damages amount and creator Stephen Levinson of HBO as well as Bucks Entertainment and Leverage Management have been accused of poaching the idea for the summertime football series in a federal suit brought by Everette Silas and Sherri Littleton in December."
The same post added that the complaint against them is strong and that with all of those evidences at bay, the actors and creators are facing hefty amounts of compensation for the infringement.
However, despite the rising complaints, both Johnson and Wahlberg revealed that there are no similarities whatsoever on the claims set against them. Although they are being sued, they would still not go down without a fight, as reported by Toronto Sun.
On the other hand, the complainant rebutted that the "stories, character traits, scenes, and incidents portrayed in the two works are in many respects, virtually identical and strikingly similar. These substantially similar elements, coupled with the Defendants' direct access to the Materials, leave little doubt that numerous elements were copied from Off Season."
It remains to be seen how the complaint and lawsuit would end, but as for "Ballers," its second season is slated for release on the summer months in HBO.
