Are you about to thaw that frozen pizza in the microwave? Read this article first before taking a bite! Your pizza may have glass shards in it.
Nestle USA has initiated a voluntary recall this week because of possible food contamination. The recall of its frozen food products was prompted after several reports of small pieces of glass have been found by multiple consumers after purchasing the spinach-based food products.
The company has noted that the affected brands were DiGiorno, Stouffers and Lean Cuisine frozen food products. The company's investigation led them to believe that the source of the glass shards are from their spinach ingredient - the only product common between the frozen foods.
The list of impacted products includes four different varieties of DiGiorno pizzas, five different Lean Cuisine meals, and Stouffer's lasagnas and soufflé. The complete list of relevant product codes can be found on the Nestlé website. Consumers are advised to check the website and then check the labels for comparison. Although the recall only covers a specific product category, customers are still urged not to consume the products and instead contact Nestle through their Customer Service hotline (1-800-681-1676) for proper assistance. Customers are also urged not to attempt to ingest the food even after checking for and removing the glass materials as even the smallest foreign object can injure the body's internal organs.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, according to NBC. Nestle has apologized to its customer-base for the inconvenience, citing that quality and safety are their top priorities while they are making every effort required towards the voluntary recall of 3 million of its products.
Hopefully, Clay Matthews, DeStorm Power, Ray William Johnson and Colleen Evans weren't able to ingest any of the glass objects when they were making the DioGiorno Pizza commercial.
