They're not only good at managing the basketball team and the businesses associated with it, but "Tom Gores, Arn Tellem and the Pistons have been making a real community impact." That is exactly Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said, according to Freep.
Dennis Mannion, who helps manage the Detroit Pistons, believes that experience as a great way to get young people into the workforce. Which is why the president of Palace Sports and Entertainment was very excited at the S.A.Y Detroit Play Center on Van Dyke, when the Detroit Pistons announced that they are giving a $100,000 grant and forming a partnership with "Grow Detroit's Youth Talent."
Being unable to attend, Pistons owner Tom Gores, praised the efforts of the program via a news release. "Jobs teach kids responsibility, commitment and the important lessons that will last a lifetime,'' Gores announced. Gores specified that the partnership and summer opportunities for the Detroit kids will also enable an environment for the kids to feel safe and at the same time learn and develop their skills and talents. He ends his announcement with, "Supporting Detroit's youth is a core part of our effort to inspire positive change throughout the community.''
This is good news for the Detroit kids because the project will support summer youth programs. The grant towards the "Grow Detroit's Youth Talent" is just the beginning. Everyone is eager to provide opportunities for Detroit kids to have a learning experience this summer.
"It goes very well with our internship program,'' Mannion explains. He goes on to add that there are kids in schools doing great. These kids learn how to be analytical, and, on the field, they are taught teamwork. Mannion is quite excited to bring the kids in.
