Getting your dream job requires a lot more than just a nice resume. At the end of the day, your personality and attitude are what determine if a recruiting officer will hire you or not. However, there are a few things you can do to help make sure you land that post. See this list of 7 job interview tips:
1. Research on Common Interview Questions
It is said that knowing is half the battle. Ask your recruiting officer about the types of questions you can expect. If you know people in the same company, it is best to ask them about the hiring process too. Having even a rough idea of what to expect is sure to come in handy when you deliver your concise and well-thought answers.
2. Research on the Company
Understanding the needs of the company is a way to show the recruiting officer that you are the right man or woman for the job. Check online for a company website (the "about" section is especially helpful), LinkedIn and Facebook business and personal pages, and possibly some published articles about the company.
3. Arrive on Time
The enthusiasm of an applicant can very well be gauged by how early or late he or she is to an interview. It might be best to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment to give a buffer time for paperwork and just settling in. Additionally, being early from your engagement allows time to observe the work environment. Remember, there is no excuse to arriving late.
4. Dress for Success
Being sloppy in outward appearance is an automatic deal-breaker when recruiting someone. Being overdressed is also better then being underdressed. It is alright to wear jewelry but having too much is off-putting. Please try to refrain from smoking or eating right before the interview. Chewing gum is also not advised while in a job interview.
5. Enthusiasm Is Key
Being polite and enthusiastic to everyone you encounter in the office is a good sign for HR. Being arrogant in any way can score you low points when your application is being evaluated. Why would a company hire a know-it-all?
6. Mind Your Body Language
Bad habits such as chewing gum while talking, playing with your hair or pen, mumbling and even just spacing out should be left at the door. Please, you are trying to show your best so be sure you get the point across with all kinds of communication, body language included.
7. Ask Insightful Questions
When it is your turn to ask questions, make sure you do not waste your interviewer's time. At this point the interview must be concluding. Some examples of insightful questions include inquiring about the next step in the hiring process and when you might possibly hear back from them. If you happen to be applying for a sales job or something just as aggressive, you even have the option of asking outright if you got the job or not.
