A T-38 crash only caused a instructor pilot and his student to sustain minor injuries, while the crashed plane sent off an explosion and set the woods ablaze.

The jet was a T-38 Talon and had crashed in Wichita Falls Friday morning at approximately 6:48 a.m. According to Times Record News, the accident reportedly happened due to the plane first striking a bird.

"All of a sudden you hear a big loud noise, it sounded like a blow torch and then just a big loud bang, so we flew out of bed, threw shoes on went outside and you just see a big mushroom cloud everywhere," Melissa Baker, a witness of the crash informed KFDX.com.

The pilots was able to escape the explosion by ejecting themselves from the crashing T-38 Talon. Sheriff David Duke explained that one of the injured pilots was stuck in the trees after the ejection. Though covered with jet fuel, he had to drop to the ground where explosion left a ball of burning fire. The lucky pilot, however, only received minor burns on his face and neck.

The instructor pilot Major Christopher Thompson and the student pilot 1st Lt. Julius Dressbach had been involved in a Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program. This incident was not the first time the T-38 Talon had crashed near the Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. In 2009, a less lucky duo were killed in their jet crash landing.
