Sky-gazers enjoyed Hunter's Moon, Supermoon, on Sunday the third to the last supermoon of this year.
A Supermoon, scientifically called Perigee Full Moon, happens when the full moon is in the part of the orbit where it is closest to the earth. This will be the time where the moon will be 30 per cent brighter and 14 per cent bigger.
The Telegraph reported that the supermoon looked orangey and reddish. They explained that this is because the moonlight passes through the atmosphere's thicker section.
"The light particles that can be found in the spectrum don't easily scatter. This is the reason why the moon looks reddish," they said.
They also said that the supermoon can create larger tides because of the moon's gravitational pull. They explained that the moon being closer to Earth will create higher tides and tides' variations as well.
NPR reported this is also named Hunter's Moon because this phenomenon will appear after sunset which will help hunters spot wildlife better
They explained that it's because these month the moon rises 30 minutes during the night time. They said that in other months it takes 50 minutes for the moon to rise.
For this year, the closest supermoon that we can see will be next month November 14. During this time, the Earth will be close to the moon for about 221, 524 miles.
The supermoon that will be seen in November will be the closest the moon will reach the earth this century. It wouldn't be this close again until November 25, 2034.
Astrologers said that there has been six supermoons that happened this year. The last supermoon can be seen in December 14, 2016
They explained that closest the supermoon will be in the 21st century will be on December 6, 2052. Astrologers encourage people to mark the date.
