Nintendo 3DS fans can rest easy now that Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima explained that the handheld device won't be replaced by the upcoming gaming hybrid Nintendo Switch.

Kimishima stated in an interview that even though the new Nintendo Switch will have mobility like the Nintendo 3DS, the latter will continue to be in stores. Hardware sales for the 3DS are improving, all thanks to its software. He may be referring to 'Pokémon Sun' and 'Moon' being the best pre-selling games in the history of the company, as reported by Gamespot.

He further added that the Nintendo Switch wasn't conceived as a replacement for existing hardware. Instead, the line of thinking is geared towards providing a different, additional experience for gamers. The hybrid may be the next step to revolutionizing the gaming scene.

During the interview, VR capability also came into the discussion if Nintendo is looking at having this feature for the new hybrid hardware. It would appear the Nintendo Switch may not have this functionality yet during its launch on March 2017, but doors are not closed to this possibility. Kimishima further explained that they can't say no to the likelihood of having VR capabilities in the future, but would be based on system specifications and software.

One unannounced feature that will make the Nintendo Switch even more versatile is the presence of multi-touch capacitive touchscreen that's similar to smartphones and tablets. This carries the potential of the home console/ handheld to be able to play smartphone games, like the upcoming 'Super Mario Run,' as per Daily Star.

This capability makes the Nintendo Switch a must-have for gaming aficionados. Its ability to play via its built-in screen as well as functioning as a home console that allows the player to play games via a wider television screen adds to the appeal. When you add the touchscreen functionality, it sure is an innovation to a gamer's experience.
