The latest update for the UFC is that Nate Diaz has fired off shots aimed at Conor McGregor, saying that a third fight with the Irishman is the only fight that will motivate him to return to the UFC. But he knows it might not happen as he says a third fight with him is a "bad idea" for McGregor.
According to Foxsports, Diaz was watching McGregor defeat Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title at "UFC 205" in New York. Diaz noticed that a lot of eyes suddenly shifted toward his direction after the fight was over, but said he had no intention of getting into an altercation with McGregor.
"After the fight, everybody's turning and looking at me," he said. "It's not my call. These guys are hiding me out up here."
Diaz added that the UFC didn't even give him tickets to the fight and had to rely on friends who offered him a seat in a box upstairs. It was probably because of fear that Diaz would cause a scene, but he said that's the farthest thing from his mind.
But the Stockton, California native is interested in a third fight. He said it is the only fight that would motivate him enough to return to the UFC at this point.
But Diaz knows it's unlikely to happen anytime soon. According to Bleacher Report, Diaz said that the "The UFC knows that's a bad idea" for McGregor.
"Me and him know what happened the last couple of fights," he said. Diaz said that their fight needs to come to a conclusion as he doesn't "remember any of the greatest of all time getting worked over like the last two fights."
He adds that "everybody needs to see that." But it should be McGregor who needs to ask for the fight, as "he's the one that has something to prove."
McGregor defeated Diaz via majority decision at "UFC 202" in August. But Diaz submitted McGregor in their first bout at "UFC 196" in March.
As of this moment, there's no update from the UFC regarding a third bout between the two. But McGregor's coach, John Kavanagh, is pushing for a third fight and there are fans who want to see that as well.
