NBA rumors are buzzing around New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose as he nears free agency. The Knicks are still in doubt of giving rose an extension while the latter wants to win now. With the Cleveland Cavaliers currently looking for a backup guard, it's expected that the two teams might spark a deal before the trade deadline.
Rose was acquired by the Knicks in the offseason but the team cannot extend his contract until Dec. 22. According to ESPN, the franchise won't offer an extension for Rose until June 30 since this season is a probationary period if his body can hold up.
"I'm more concerned with trying to win games, but it's something I'd have to talk about with my family and team," Rose said. He will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2017, as per Spotrac but NBA rumors have it that he can choose to leave now and join a winning team.
In a report by the New York Post, the Knicks front office also hasn't met with Rose with regards to his extension. Rose can prove himself to be worthy of a Knicks' extension or he could join a top contending team like the Cavaliers.
There are NBA rumors of the Cavaliers looking for a backup point guard and Rose might be the perfect fit. The Cavs are trying to keep Kyrie Irving healthy as they defend their title this season. Getting a backup to come off the bench for him is the best solution.
But recent reports have it that the Cavaliers are also looking into some free agents and one notable name is Mario Chalmers. For now, it's all but a waiting game and the biggest factor Rose's health.
These NBA rumors would be a blockbuster deal if everything falls into place. The NBA is always full of surprises and fans would expect a lot of it with the trade deadline nearing.
