Kubernetes 1.5 for Windows Server 2016 is set to come out today. This is the first ever version of Windows that will have a container management support. The Kubernetes 1.5 is the last major release of Kubernetes for this year.
According to eWeek, the Kubernetes project is part of the Linux Foundation's Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). Dan Kohn, executive director of CNCF shared that "Kubernetes is gaining traction as the standard open source platform enabling deployments across public, private, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments.”
Linux was the only operating system that was initially supported by Kubernetes. Multiple vendors were the ones who helped in building and contributing codes to the project. It was done through the collaboration of Microsoft, Google, Red Hat and Apprenda.
Red Hat’s Clayton Coleman said that "Red Hat has helped enable the Windows container support at several levels, including laying foundational groundwork to have Windows nodes connected to the cluster and assisting in the prototyping of how Kubernetes concepts can be mapped to Windows containers.”
Reportedly, Kubernetes 1.5 has the ability to support different kinds of windows container. It supports the conventional windows container, the port of Dockers to Windows. Aside from that is also supports Hyper-V Containers that is one of the notable features of windows server 2016.
Another interesting feature that Kubernetes 1.5 milestone offers is its StatefulSet in Beta. This was used to be called “PetSet” that allows for organizations to run stateful applications. These are the kinds of applications that usually require a big amount of storage and identity.
Meanwhile, Jobs & Hire reported that there were a lot of users that complained regarding the update of Windows 10. It has been said that most users do not want the upgrade and that there are important functions that were affected because of it.
