Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney have reunited on the silver screen for August: Osage Country, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend. The two appeared arm in arm at the red carpet, looking very cordial.
Robets and Mulroney once starred as best-friends and former lovers sixteen years ago in the 1997 romantic comedy hit My Best Friend's Wedding, where Robert's character tried to repeatedly sabotage her best friend's wedding to Cameron Diaz' character, after realizing that she had been in love with him the whole time.
Mulroney has stated that he and Roberts have remained very close friends, seeing each other for birthday parties and arranging play dates for their children. Mulroney is married Tharita Catulle, and together they have three children: little son Clyde and daughters Sally and Mabel.
Julia Roberts is herself married, to Daniel Moder, with whom she also has three children: 8-year old twins Hazel and Finn, and six year old Henry.
Both actors have expressed their delight at finally having to work with each other again, saying that since they were "genuine friends," they always have a good time.
Will they finally be onscreen lovers this time?
Sadly, no. Mulroney will be playing pot-smoking boyfriend to the younger sister of Julia Robert's character.
August: Osage Country is based off a Tracy Lett's play of the same name, and was directed by John Wells. Julia Roberts will be portraying Barbara Weston, whose mother (portrayed by the marvellous Meryl Streep) has oral cancer and has taken a severe liking to drugs. The story revolves around the family coming together after their father Beverly Weston (played by Sam Shepard), who writes poetry and has a drinking problem, disappears only to be discovered to have committed suicide. The film is set to be released in nationwide theatres in November2013.
