Jordan Linn Graham had allegedly pushed her husband off a cliff, and was charged on Monday with second-degree murder, Fox News reported Tuesday.
Court documents stated that 22-year-old Jordan was having second thoughts about her 8-day-old marriage with 25-year-old Cody Lee Johnson. When the newlywed couple drove the short distance from their Kalispell home to Glacier National Park, they got into a fight.
Reports stated that Johnson grabbed Graham by the arm, but his wife pulled away and pushed him face-first off of the Montana cliff to his death.
However, federal prosecutors gave their version of what really happened to Johnson, two months after his corpse was found in the steep and rugged area where he fell after the confrontation, adding that the authorities had to use a helicopter for the recovery of the suspect's body.
CNN reported that Jordan Linn Graham made an initial court appearance on Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah C. Lynch, and she is to face a charge of second-degree murder for the death of her husband, which if proven true, could lead her to life imprisonment.
A criminal complaint stated that Graham had confessed to a friend that she was having second thought about her marriage with Johnson, adding that they argued the night of July 7, and decided to go hiking at the Glacier National Park in Flathead County, Montana to simmer down the boiling argument.
"Due to her anger, she pushed Johnson with both hands in the back, and as a result, he fell face first off the cliff," an affidavit stated.
According to CBS News, Johnson's family and friends were called in for the investigation after the body was found below the Loop Trail near Going to the Sun Road on July 12.
Johnson was reportedly missing on July 8, when the 25-year-old failed to make an appearance for his work, and Graham claimed that she had found her husband's body later on.
During the initial investigation, Graham said that her husband left their house on July 7 with unidentified friends in a dark-colored car.
Meanwhile, Graham told the investigators that another friend of hers received an email on July 10, saying that Johnson went hiking with his friends, but had apparently fallen into his death.
Recent reports stated that Johnson was very excited for their marriage after a two-year courtship, but his family and relatives already knew that Graham didn't exactly reciprocate Johnson's feelings.
Nevertheless, Graham's husband assured his mother that everything will turn out for the best once they got married, family friend Tracey Mannes said.
"Nobody ever could have thought something like this could happen," Mannes added.
