In a sudden twist of events, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth seem to have finally severed their ties to each other...on Twitter.

Miley Cyrus has unfollowed her fiancé Liam Hemsworth's twitter account, following recent reports that say he is discreetly wooing "Mad Men" star January Jones by sending her flirtatious texts.

Rumors surrounding the couple (who have been dating for three years, and have been engaged) have reached headway right after Miley Cyrus' outrageous MTV Video Music Awards performance, in which she gyrated and twerked to Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" performance. The onstage debacle has reportedly been the final straw for an apparently conservative Hemsworth, who obviously did not find his fiancée's performance very tasteful, with sources saying he had been "mortified" to see Cyrus prancing about with a foam finger. Since then he had wanted to break free from the relationship.

But it seems that neither of them wants to pull the trigger yet, as they were still living together.

Which is why people are all a-flutter in the recent twitter unfollowing. One would think this would have little or nothing at all to do with a relationship, but severing ties in social media has grown to carry as much resonance as severing real ties. Social media has permeated daily life after all, with even entire generations solely relying on it for social interaction.

Fans recall how Cyrus and Hemsworth met after starring as leads in "The Last Song," after striking up a romantic relationship, and getting engaged in May 2012.

Miley Cyrus also seems to have been singing about her relationship with Hemsworth in her new single "Wrecking Ball," which most of you remember mostly as "that one where licks a sledgehammer and swings around naked on a wrecking ball."

There is no official news out yet, but we can all only assume that the relationship is slowly going down the drain.
