A middle-class Russian family is revealed to have been behind a six-year killing spree, killing at least 30 people and "countless robberies."

Involved are former Kindergarten teacher Inessa Tarverdiyeva, 46, her second husband, dentist Roman Podkopaev, 35, Inessa's daughter from a first marriage, Viktoria Tarverdiyeva, 25, and 13-year-old Anastasiya.

The entire family has taken part in all the crimes in the Rostov region, says police.

The family was arrested, with Podkopaev dying in a shootout with the police. Inessa is now currently being interrogated by the police. She says that she and the family considered the murders and robbery as just another day's work. She had quit from teaching children to rob and murder as the family's new source of income. She has also been asked to demonstrate to the police how she murdered her victims.

In one 2009 murder case, the gang killed Dmitry Chudakov, a paratrooper, along with his wife Irina, and 7-year-old son Sasha and 11-year-old Veronika.  The parents and son were shot at with a semi-automatic weapon, and the 11-year-old stabbed 37 times. The family had been overpowered while at a lay-by, stealing £950 worth of valuables.

They did not spare people close to them. The gang also victimized two teenage girls, one of whom was Inessa's goddaughter, by torturing them and gouging out their eyes. The gang of six had intended to rob the house, knowing the father was an avid hunting fan and had many hunting guns in the house, but the two girls the daughter and her friend, had come in instead. They ended up being killed.

The family, who lived a comfortable life in the suburbs, frequently went on "hunting trips," to mask their crime sprees.

They were finally arrested after robbing the house of an ex-military officer in Aksai, Rostov region. They killed an unnamed couple, and stole alcohol, candles, even chicken drumsticks, after finding no money. Podkopaev and Viktoria had tried to escape but were caught at a checkpoint later, with the former dying in an ensuing shootout.

Inessa claims to have hated policemen, with the gang being responsible for the murder of six officers.

Officials have discovered an extensive arsenal of weapons in the gang's Stavropol home. Inessa has since been compared to Ma Barker, who reportedly went on killing and robbing sprees with her gangster sons in the 1930s, notoriously gunned down in her house by the police.
