Most young people dream about working for Google because of its organizational culture. While many only think about applying for a job, a 7-year-old girl took the initiative to send a handwritten note to Google CEO Sundar Pichai asking for a job.
According to CNBC, Chloe Bridgewater, who lives in Hereford, United Kingdom, wrote a letter addressed to “Google boss” saying that she would like a job with the company when she’s older.
The 7-year-old highlighted her achievements, saying that her teachers tell her parents that she is “very good in class and am good at my spelling and reading and my sums.”
“My dad told me that if I carry on being good and learning then one day I will be able to have a job at Google,” she continued. She also said that she likes computers and apart from working for the company, she dreams of being an Olympic swimmer and a chocolate factory worker.
The British schoolgirl said that her father, Andy Bridgewater, encouraged her to send an application but also said that “a letter will do for now.” Chloe said that her father told her that once she’s employed by the company, she could “sit on bean bag chairs and go down slides and ride go carts” at Google. The 7-year-old added that this is the second letter that she has ever sent in her life and that the first was addressed to Father Christmas.
Chloe and her family were pleasantly surprised when CEO Sundar Pichai responded to her letter, which was posted by Andy on his Twitter account.
“I’m glad that you like computers and robots, and hope that you will continue to learn about technology,” Pichai wrote. “I think if you keep working hard and following your dreams, you can accomplish everything you set your mind to…I look forward to receiving your job application when you are finished with school.”
In an interview with the BBC, Andy, who works as a sales manager, said that they were very surprised and that his daughter probably didn’t understand the magnitude of the reaction she got after she sent the letter. Andy said that both Chloe has always been told on school reports that she is “bright, hard-working, and polite.”
He added that because his daughter is still quite young, she needs to play with her friends just like other children. But whenever Chloe shows an interest in doing something, such as writing the letter to Google, they make it a point to encourage and support her every time.
