A college student was caught allegedly trying to rob a convenience store in Oakland, before being stunned-quite literally- by an armed store employee.

It must have been a strange night for that employee, when Spiderman burst into the store and yelled at him, asking him about the store's money.

21-year-old Jonathan Hewson, a student from the University of Pittsburgh, ran headlong into the store in a full Spiderman costume and yelled at the baffled employee, "How much money you got?"

Threatened, the employee quickly responded to the inquiry by shooting Spiderman with a stun gun.

Surveillance video from the store showed Spiderman stumbling and crouching about in from of the store before running off. He didn't get very far, getting himself arrested by responding policemen one block away.

University of Pittsburgh police caught up with Spiderman twenty minutes later. They said he was still wearing the costume.

Hewson's roommate has said that he does not believe that Hewson intended any harm.

Jon is a pretty good guy. He's an awesome guy," said Chris Esposito, Spiderman's roommate "I think it's just a big misinterpretation, and everything that's being said of him has been misinterpreted."

Hewson, who is studying business, is reported to be a fan of comic books, and has several pictures on his Twitter account of himself as the crime-fighting, web-slinging superhero. His roommate defends him by saying that he likes to dress up as Spiderman every weekend, but would really never rob anyone.

"He's a 'Spider-Man' enthusiast.  He's just a college kid, and college kids tend to do strange things," Esposito said of his friend.  "He's not doing anything malicious or with bad intent."

Hewson has since been arraigned of his robbery charges, with the bail set at $50,000, and also with the judge ordering him to have his mental health evaluated.
