Education will always be the best personal investment. And now, Rihanna hinted that she would consider going to college. The Grammy-winning singer accepted Harvard's 2017 Humanitarian of the Year Award on Tuesday.
According to Winnipeg Free Press, the “Disturbia” singer was overwhelmed with such honor given to her. It even inspired her to earn a degree and go to college.
In her speech, Rihanna told the audience that you do not have to be rich in order to become a humanitarian. When it comes to helping other people, you do not have to be rich and famous to be able to do that. “You don't even have to be college-educated. I mean, I wish I was ... especially today ... It's true, I might come back,” said Rihanna.
The crowd then cheered and laughed. Rihanna teased that she really is considering going to college.
The “California King Bed” singer’s humanitarian award was based on her involvement with a number of charitable works. Rihanna’s charity project includes setting up an oncology and nuclear medicine center in her home country, Barbados. The center is intended to help cancer patients.
Aside from that, Rihanna also created the Clara Lionel Foundation scholarship program. Rihanna named the foundation after her late grandmother who died because of cancer, said Page Six. The scholarships are for those Carribean students who study in the United States.
Rihanna also supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project. The said project enables children to have access to education in more than 60 countries.
The singer also recalled her early childhood when she was around 5 or 6 years old. She remembered watching the television and seeing commercials of children suffering around the world. And it encouraged people to give 25 cents in order to help save the life of those kids. It hit her and made her think of becoming rich and able to help.
“I would think to myself … I wonder how many 25 cents I could save up to save all of the kids in Africa and I would say to myself, ‘When I grow up and get rich, I’m going to save kids all over the world.’ I just didn’t know I’d be in the position to do that when I was a teenager,” said Rihanna.
Meanwhile, Jobs & Hire reported that comedienne Sarah Silverman has been very vocal that she wants to build her own family. But then she decided not to have children and pursue her comedy career.
