Robot and android technology is rapidly advancing year after year, and many workers fear that it’s only a matter of time before robots take over their job. While some careers are expected to remain exclusive to humans, other jobs have been projected to be taken over by machines within the next 20 years.
According to Fortune, certain physical jobs that require repetitive rote tasks are likely to get automated in the near future. The jobs that are least likely to be taken over by robots are the ones that require physical movement or operating machinery in unpredictable settings, as these are challenging to automate.
Here are the jobs that are likely to be taken over by robots.
Bus drivers
According to Salary.com, this job is one that could likely be taken over by robots because driverless vehicles already exist. Google, Delphi, and Tesla have all been testing self-driving vehicles in the hopes of lessening accidents due to human error.
Postal service workers
According to NPR, postal service jobs have a 95.4 percent chance of being automated. It’s likely that sorters, clerks, and mail carriers could be out of a job soon as not only is snail mail becoming obsolete, but robots can easily sort mail and do other repetitive tasks in the mail room.
Restaurant cooks
Restaurant cooks have a 96.3 percent chance of being automated, as it’s only a simple matter to pre-program a recipe in a machine or robot, and robotic hands could take over the prep work and actual cooking. This is entirely possible especially for fast food chains, as an automated system enables franchisees to have consistency with regards to their food.
Cashiers
Cashiers have a 97.1 percent chance of being automated. It was recently reported that Amazon is about to open a robot-run supermarket, and the company will only hire three humans to operate it.
Fashion models
Oddly enough, this job has a 97.6 percent chance of being automated. If technology advances enough that robot manufacturers are able to create androids similar to that in “Westworld,” then it’s likely that we’ll be seeing a lot of carefully engineered robots that could rival Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner on the runway.
