In the fast-paced landscape of 2024, the business world becomes a stage for innovation, growth, and transformation. As we anticipate the unfolding of another exciting chapter, spotlighting companies poised to redefine success is crucial.
To help Glassdoor determine its 2024 list of the Best Places to Work in the United States, employees submitted numerous reviews on ranking workplace elements like diversity and inclusion, compensation and benefits, culture and values, and work-life balance. The list evaluates companies between October 2022 and October 2023 with over 1,000 employees and a minimum of 75 reviews on the platform, with ratings based on a 5-point scale.
Three Sectors Topping the Best Companies to Work for
Glassdoor's latest research reveals that the industries with the happiest and most successful employees can be found in just three sectors: technology, finance, and consulting.
The three sectors dominated the top companies list for two consecutive years, showing a slight decrease in technology presence, with 31 tech companies on the list this year, down from 41 last year.
According to Glassdoor's lead economist, Daniel Zhao, employees' priorities remain consistent over the years, and a supportive atmosphere, competitive pay, transparent leadership, and abundant career growth opportunities remain their top concerns.

Where Employees are Focused on
Employees and job seekers are placing growing importance on job security. As per employee reviews, companies with higher ratings demonstrate a consistent track record, indicating infrequent layoffs, low turnover, and robust job tenure.
Glassdoor's lead economist, Daniel Zhao, observes a trend where, following a challenging 2023 marked by layoffs and recession concerns, companies that provide stability and robust career development opportunities increasingly attract job seekers compared to 2021 and 2022. Zhao notes a decline in the allure of the technology sector, with traditional industries like consulting and finance making a notable comeback. According to Zhao, the evolving priorities of workers indicate a more balanced job market nearly four years after the upheavals caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
But with a potential recession still inevitable, companies must find ways to provide an excellent employee experience within tighter budgets, as the usual array of perks and benefits that attracted employees two years ago might not be as feasible now.
