Hollywood A-list actor Tom Hanks revealed today that he has Type 2 diabetes, which his doctor confirmed to him recently.

Although Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks seemed to be in tip top shape after shedding noticeable pounds within the past five years, during his guesting on 'Late Show With David Letterman,' he revealed that just like any other human being, he is prone to having health issues. And for him, it's Type 2 Diabetes.

The Latino Times reported that Tom Hanks was simply out to promote his upcoming film 'Captain Phillips' when he decided to break his silence and make that bold announcement about his condition.

Hanks said that a recent visit to his doctor revealed that his unwavering high blood sugar level, since he turned 36 up to his present-day age of 57, proved to be something else.

"You know those high blood-sugar numbers you've been dealing with since you were 36? Well, you've graduated!" Hanks doctor told him. "You've got Type 2 diabetes, young man."

After his announcement, the audience inside the studio was seen gloomy with despondent faces, but Hanks was quick to cheer them up by saying that his condition is fortunately "controllable."

The 'Forrest Gump' actor even quipped, "Something's gonna kill us all, Dave."

Hanks then dished that his doctor advised him to put on some weight, pointing out that the actor needs to weigh like how he did way back in his high school years for him to be healthy on the very least.

"My doctor said, 'Look, if you can weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you'll essentially be completely healthy. You will not have Type 2 diabetes,'" recounted Hanks. "I said to her, 'Well, I'm going to have Type 2 diabetes, because there's no way I can weigh as much as I did in high school.'"

The 57-year-old Hollywood actor then revealed that he weighed 96 pounds in high school, but said that "most of it was that big, wide afro."
