World Series TV ratings may have been going down in the past few years as internet live streaming for baseball became readily available online. But as St. Louis's rookie Wacha and Red Sox slugger David Oritz took turns in seizing perfect-pitching moments during the second game for the 109th World Series, many may have took their time to watch the game unfold on FOX.
According to Nelson Media Research, figures for the World Series Game 2 opened with a 6.3/11 which peaked to a 9.6/15 as 15.6 million tuned in to their televisions to watch Cardinals' 4-2 victory, which consequently evened the series.
Just one night after securing Game 1, Boston handed the victory to the Cardinals, with a series of plays during the pivotal seventh inning.
"Obviously, I'm aware of what's at stake," Boston Red Sox left-handed reliever Craig Breslow said after the game. Then, he quickly followed it up with: "I've made a throw of that distance thousands of times in my life."
Meanwhile, John Lackey, Red Sox right-hander, despondently said moments after the World Series game 2, "We had a chance there."
According to a report from Forbes, Games 1 and 2 for the World Series, averaged an 8.5/14 and 13.9 million number of FOX viewers, which compared to last year's ratings was up by 10 percent.
Back on the game, although the Cardinals managed to snag the game, Facebook social media battle favored the Red Sox. The figures for the social media battle on Game 2 generated 4.5 discussions from nearly 2.7 million users, and 58% of the interactive comments and discussions came from Red Sox fans as opposed to the Cardinals' 42%.
The series is now heading to St. Louis for Game 3 from Busch Stadium at 7:30 PM ET, with high ratings expected for FOX's telecast.
