Brazil stadium collapse: a part of the supposed to be 2014 World Cup Brazil stadium collapsed Wednesday, killing three workers of the structure and raising major concerns on whether Brazil will be able to host the 2014 World Cup soccer event, the Associated Press reported Nov. 27.

Because the Brazil stadium collapsed, the country is facing a string of setbacks such as cost overruns, accidents, stadium delays, street protests, labor strife, and many more before the June tournament. What was said to be a coming out event for the largest nation in South America - which is also said to host the 2016 Olympics - is now struggling to keep up with the pressure to meet its deadline.

According to Foxnews, the Sao Paulo's Itaquerao stadium in Brazil collapsed following an unexpected crash involving a construction crane into a 500-ton metal structure, which apparently led to the destruction of the venue's outer walls, including the destruction of several rows of seats as well as that of a massive LED panel across the facade of the stadium.

Analysts said that the collapse will surely delay the realization of the Brazil stadium, which was said to be finished prior to Wednesday's accident, adding that the country needs to act fast if they want to meet FIFA's December deadline for all 12 World Cup venues for 2014, especially that the big event is expected to commence on June 12 at the said stadium.

However, authorities claim that no major structural damage was obtained out of the accident.

"I don't want to know about FIFA right now, we are worried about the families of the victims," former Corinthians president Andres Sanchez said.

Sanchez was also the one who broke the news about the death of two people, according to Foxnews.

Nevertheless, the Associated Press later on reported that the number of deaths was at three as stated by a fire department official.

But as of late only 42-year-old Fabio Luis Periera and 44-year-old Ronaldo Oliviera dos Santos were identified as victims of the Brazil stadium collapsing event.

Several outlets reported that the accident happened lunchtime; thus, only a few out of the 1,700 workers managed to witness when the crane collapsed.
