Megan Young, our reigning Miss World, took time to visit Eastern Visayas, putting smiles all over the faces of Yolanda survivors, Philippine news outlets reported Saturday.
According to Cebu Daily News, a local publication, Megan Young visited the Redemptorist Church in Tacloban Friday, where she met a group of young girl survivors, who temporarily forgot their woes in front of the beauty queen.
ABS CBN news showed a footage of Young's visit in Leyte, where she could be seen receiving the letters and drawings the little girls gifted to her after her inspirational talk that aimed to motivate the young Yolanda survivors not to give up on their dreams despite the tragic situation they are in as of late.
"I'm happy to put a smile on their faces. Now is the time when it's not about receiving, but for them to do their part as well," Megan Young told local reporters in her press conference at the Cebu City Hall.
Meanwhile, the Miss World Organizers explained why they encouraged Young to wear the crown during her visit.
"We let her wear the crown because it brings a sense of hope to the children that a fairytale princess visited them. Seeing their expression, it was worth bringing the crown all the way from London," Miss World Events Director Steve Douglas said.
The Miss World titlist has gathered about $1.2 million funds thus far for the typhoon victims, Douglas added.
