An Antarctica helicopter crash has made it difficult for responding officials to rescue three severely injured passengers, CNN reported Monday.

A helicopter that was reportedly carrying scientists who are about to go on a scientific mission in Antarctica has unfortunately crashed over 150 miles away from their home base. The Sunday night crash has severely injured three people; however, the respondents find it hard to rescue these individuals, who were said to be the pilot and the two passengers of the helicopter.

The Australian Antarctic Division said the helicopter was returning after a successful survey of the penguin colony near the Amery ice shelf, when it accidentally crashed 150 nautical miles from their intended destination.

The team from the second helicopter immediately landed near the site of crash to help the injured passengers and the pilot "until additional medical support can be flown to the area," according to the said division. Nevertheless, the division revealed that the injuries they obtained from the accident were serious and require proper treatment as soon as possible. Thus, on Monday afternoon an aircraft was sent to look for a place where a different rescue aircraft could possibly land on the terrain to hasten the rescue operation.

No further information has been provided by the division as of late.
