Family Ties star Meredith Baxter has gone ahead and tied the knot! After several years of courtship, the 66-year-old actress married her long-time partner, Nancy Locke, a contractor. The two were married with immediate family and close friends on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.
Meredith Baxter's five children from previous marriages were present to support their mom. Music was an important part of the festivities-a close friend sang at the ceremony as well as the reception and Locke's band also entertained guests. The couple of seven years also revealed that they took dance lessons to learn the moves they were going to make as a married couple out on the dance floor.
In 2009, Meredith Baxter first came out as a lesbian saying: "I got involved with someone I never expected to get involved with, and it was that kind of awakening," she referred to Locke on Today in 2009. "I never fought it because it was like, 'Oh, I understand why I had the issues I had early in life.' I had a great deal of difficulty connecting with men in relationships," Baxter also added, implying her troubles with past relationships with Robert Lewis Bush, David Birney and Michael Blodgett.
On the same article, Meredith Baxter also recounted how she came out to her children who have supported her the whole way, her eldest son even confirming that he already knew before she told him. "The support from my family and anyone close to me has been so immediate and unqualified. I've really been blessed," the radiant bride was quoted as saying.
Indeed, there is nothing like a warm response to personal news such as coming out a gay person when you've lived your whole life thinking that you were straight. The only thing that might be better is a honeymoon with the partner you have waited to marry for seven years.
