Five NFL coaches got fired just hours after NFL's regular season ended and before the year 2013 ended. Coaches who got unemployed Monday, Dec. 30, were Detroit's Jim Schwartz, Minnesota's Leslie Frazier, Tampa Bay's Greg Schiano, and Washington's Mike Shanahan. On the other hand, Rob Chudzinski was fired from the Cleveland Browns on Sunday evening.
According to the DenverPost, Schwartz coached the Lions for five seasons, finishing 29-52; Frazier coached the Vikings for more than three seasons, ending with an 18-33-1 mark; Schiano only had two years with the Buccaneers, finishing 11-21, and Schanahan spent four seasons with the Redskins. Meanwhile, Chudzinski got axed after a single season on the job.
Schiano still had three years and $9 million left on his contract while Shanahan has one remaining season on his five-year contract which pays him $7 million per season.
Interestingly, one coach, who is said to be currently on the hot seat, managed to keep his job. Rex Ryan is reportedly staying with the New York jets after an 8-8 record in his fifth season with his team.
"It's tough for the players to see your coaches go. You never want to see anybody get fired," Gerald McCoy, Pro Bowl defensive tackle, said. "Me personally, I haven't had any, consistently, in my career. Third head coach, going on my fifth year and three head coaches. Add up everybody, it'll be six D-line coaches."
