The Klingon letter a U.S. politician wrote to sound off his resignation from the town council board was deemed 'unprofessional' by the Indian Trail mayor, Yahoo! News reported Friday.

David Waddell reportedly wrote a rather catchy resignation letter when he decided to use the language of Star Trek's warrior language to express his decision to leave after his first term on a town council board.

"Perhaps today is a good day (to) resign," Waddell, who was serving in Indian Trail, North Carolina, wrote in his Klingon letter.

Reports state that Waddell used the Klingon translator on Bing.com in writing his letter, but he admitted later on that it was supposed to be an inside joke.

"Folks don't know what to think of me half the time ... I might as well have one last laugh," Waddell said to The Charlotte Observer.

However, after Indian Trail Mayor Michael Alvarez heard about Waddell's resignation letter and how he penned it, Alvarez opined that it was an 'unprofessional' move by a U.S. politician.

"It's an embarrassment for Indian Trail, and it's an embarrassment for North Carolina," he told The Charlotte Observer.

According to Waddell, he decided to quit due to his frustration over the runway development in his town and because of how residents' requests for public information are dealt with.

Despite its informal nature, the Klingon letter or Waddell's resignation will take effect come January 31.

Waddell's four-year seat was supposed to end in December 2015.
