Lindsey Vonn officially kissed her 2014 Sochi Olympic hopes goodbye as the American skier underwent a successful surgery in her right knee.

Vonn, who was supposed to defend her Olympic downhill title in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi next month, had her ACL reconstructed for the second time through a surgery performed by world-renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jim Andrews.

Lewis Kay, the publicist of Vonn, confirmed the report through an official statement in which they also announced that the 29-year-old girlfriend of golf superstar Tiger Woods is facing a long spell on the sidelines, but she will be ready to compete again in the 2014-15 World Cup season.

"Lindsey Vonn underwent successful ACL reconstruction surgery yesterday. Dr. Jim Andrews performed the procedure and expects her to make a full recovery in time for next year's World Championships in Vail, Colorado," Kay said in a statement.

Vonn also addressed her disappointed fans through a post on her official Twitter account in which she's seen cuddling her adopted dog named Leo.

"Resting with loved ones and of course my cuddle buddy Leo. So thankful to have such great people helping me. Will update more later. Xo Lindsey," Vonn posted.

Vonn suffered a devastating injury in last year's World Championship, tearing her ACL in her right knee after an awkward fall. The injury forced her to skip skiing activities until he made her return to training in October.

But just when she is already starting to get her old form back, Vonn suffered another partial ACL team in her surgically repaired knee. She decided to skip surgery back then as she was still hoping to participate at the downhill competition of the Sochi joust.

Vonn did well in her training and trial races afterwards, but she suffered another devastating fall in December in Val d' Isere in France, wherein knee completely "gave out."

Vonn, who holds 17 World Cup titles and 59 World Cup victories, initially planned to take a long rest before competing in Sochi, but she eventually decided to undergo surgery to avoid long-term damages in her knee.
