It's a year of newcomers as Daft Punk, Lorde and Macklemore and Lewis grab the biggest awards of the night of the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Robot-headed duo Daft Punk were awarded record of the year for their hit song "Get Lucky," featuring Pharell Williams and Nile Rodgers and album of the year for "Random Access Memories."

Daft Punk kept silent even as they got on stage to accept their award but singer-songwriter Paul Williams accepted the album of the year honors with a generous speech.

Williams, the mastermind behind hits such as "Evergreen" and "We've Only Just Begun," had problems with substance abuse in the past.

"Then I get sober and two robots asked me to make an album," the songwriter said in his acceptance speech.

Lorde took home the third of the big three awards, with "Royals" as 2014's song of the year.

"Thank you to everyone who has let the song explode," she said upon accepting the award, also giving credit to co-writer Joel Little. Lorde was also awarded for best pop solo performance on Sunday night.

Breakout hip-hop duo Macklemore & Lewis took home the most Grammys for the night with four awards.

"I want to thank our fans, the people that got us on this stage," said Macklemore. s

The rap duo, who were nominated for seven Grammys, also earned awards for rap album with "The Heist," rap performance and rap song for "Thrift Shop," beating out veterans such as Kanye West and Jay-Z.

The pair also took home rap album ("The Heist"), rap performance and rap song (both for "Thrift Shop"). Macklemore & Lewis beat out some tough competition in the rap categories. Their album was up against offerings from Drake and Kendrick Lamar, and "Thrift Shop" defeated songs by Jay Z and Kanye West.
