Marcos Maidana knows that he has a tough task ahead of him in his upcoming showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

But while the odds are stacked against him, Maidana thinks that he has the right formula to defeat the reigning pound-for-pound king, who went undefeated in his first 45 fights.

In an interview with BoxingScene on Sunday, Maidana said that he is planning to use the same strategy he had when he scored a convincing unanimous decision win over then-unbeaten champion Adrien Broner.

Maidana is aware that Mayweather is way better than Broner, but the reigning WBA welterweight champion vowed to be aggressive, saying that he will attack his unbeaten opponent right from the opening bell.

"I need to do the same thing that I did with Broner," Maidana said. "I need to go out from the get-go and attack him. I know it will be more difficult with Floyd Mayweather but I am ready."

Maidana was also a heavy underdog heading into his title fight against Broner in December last year, but he managed to defy the tall odds. He knocked Broner down in rounds two and eight en route to a convincing unanimous-decision victory.

Maidana has been enjoying the spotlight over the past several months, but he reiterated that he is not losing his focus, knowing that doing so will put him in great trouble against the reigning WBC welterweight champion.

The 30-year-old Argentine said that he has been preparing hard for the upcoming fight in hopes of breaking Mayweather's wall-like defense with his relentless attack on fight night.

"I'm very happy to see this crowd here cheering me on. There is no doubt this is going to be a very difficult fight against Floyd Mayweather, but I am very prepared for this fight," Maidana said. "There is no doubt that Floyd Mayweather has a great defense, but I have a great attack and that is what I will use."
