Floyd Mayweather Jr. will ditch Golden Boy Promotions if CEO Richard Schaefer will be removed from his position or if he decides to leave the company.
Golden Boy Promotions has co-promoted Mayweather's last nine fights, and will also co-promote the reigning pound-for-pound king's upcoming showdown against Marcos Maidana on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Schaefer has been at odds with Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya, and reports indicated that the former could get fired or leave his position in the company.
And in the event Schaefer breaks his ties with the company, Mayweather pointed out that he will not do business with Golden Boy Promotions again.
"Probably not, probably not," Mayweather said when asked about co-promoting fights with GBP without Schaefer. "The reason why I'm working with Golden Boy is because of Richard Schaefer."
Mayweather also added that he will be more than happy to hire Schaefer if he leaves Golden Boy Promotions, saying that the he has been having a good working relationship with the Swiss executive.
"Richard knows there is always a home over here," Mayweather said. "We would love to work with him hand in hand. If he has any problems over there. That's the company that we know Richard Schaefer built. Richard and Leonard [Ellerbe] work hand in hand. We're working hand in hand already. We would love to work with Richard. He is a great guy, a great father."
Mayweather is confident that with Schaefer on board, Mayweather Promotions will enjoy more success - the reason why has been keeping the door open for Schaefer over the past several years.
"Richard knows the door is always open, we look at him as family," Mayweather said. "We're stronger together than apart. And I think we are going to continue to build with each other and grow with each other."
With Mayweather's recent statement, it seems like Schaefer is really on his way out of Golden Boy Promotions.
Could this be the reason why Oscar De La Hoya is reportedly trying to improve his ties with Bob Arum and Top Rank Promotions?
