Macaulay Culkin net worth
Though he is very much under the radar these days, he was one of the most successful child stars at the height of his career and overall has a reported 15 million net worth . He starred in one successful family movie after the other; the Christmas movies Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. in which he originated the role of Kevin McCallister, Uncle Buck, My Girl, Richie Rich, Getting Even with Dad and The Pagemaster. He is also recognized or remembered as the kid who blew his parents away with his mad guitar playing skills in the memorable Michael Jackson "Black or White" music video.
Macaulay was born in New York, to Patricia Brentrup and Kit Culkin. A family that had acting and performing in their blood, mostly from his father's side, Kit Culkin, was a Broadway actor and his aunt Bonnie Bedelia had appeared in a couple of films. In contrast to his role in Home Alone, he is not the youngest kid. He is third child in a family with seven kids . There is a nine year age gap between the youngest one Rory, and Macaulay. In the early days they were rather poor and had to all fit into a tiny living space.Culkin's rise to fame greatly alleviated this problem.
Though he began his career at the tender age of four and started appearing in numerous films theater productions and television in the 80 's, he only earned his worldwide fame in the following decade.
People assume that his huge net worth comes from his most known role and yet according to IMDB he earned a mere $100 thousand from Home Alone. And it was his next one, the coming age story "My Girl" in which he costarred with Anna Chlumsky which earned him $1 million, ten times the amount of his first movie. For the Home Alone sequel which came out in 1992, the twelve year old earned $4.5 million. It seems almost too much and yet apparently the highest peak of his fame and income was still to come when In 1994 Culkin earned $16 million for starring in Richie Rich and Getting Even with Dad. After those movies, and yes, all the money Macaulay went to retreat from acting-probably thinking he was already set for life.
He came back several years later but didn't go directly to movies he tried stage work at the London's West End theater.
In 2003 he bagged a role as "king of the Club Kids" Michael Alig, in the movie Party Monster, almost nine years since his last starring feature. His performance had positive reception, the critic Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Time called Culkin's performance "fearless". For which many believe allowed him to break out of his younger roles and led to him being recognized as an adult actor. Since then Macaulay Culkin has been in more movies. Though he has never quite regained his former status and success.
