In 1995, Charlie Heflin has discovered the little body of a newborn in an Illinois graveyard. Now, Heflin has met again Skyler James, the abandoned woman that he had saved that night, years ago.
Skyler's adoptive mother, Bonnie James, looked for Heflin on Facebook, identified him and sent him a special invitation to Skyler's high school graduation ceremony. "There were quite a few tears,'' the mother has explained to 14 News WFIE.
"They took me over to Charlie and he introduced himself to me and told me the whole story again," Skyler said. "I was totally shocked. It's something that I've dreamed of since I was a little kid, and it's amazing."
Heflin's rescue has provoked the thought and initiation of Illinois' "safe haven" law. According to this law, parents can drop off their new born babies at fire departments, emergency rooms and police stations.
This case demonstrates that miracles do happen. It also speaks about humanity and nobility in a world full of violence.
This story has inspired Chicago and made it believe in the nobility of mankind.
Now the girl is happy with her family and she's ready to pursue her career. However, she knew that this would not be possible withhoug Charlie Helfin, her savior.
