With the return of the long-running crime series comes new challenges for our characters. Actor Peter Mooney recently spoke to Huffington Post about his character's upcoming assignment on the series. "This is something that is going on in the community I live in right now," Mooney said. "They are demolishing a bunch of public housing buildings and the police are there to make sure the last people have moved out. Additionally, Mooney also dished on what's to come to his character both personally and professionally. "This season , there's a lot ore cop stuff than personal for Nick," the actor said. "As the season goes on, there will be some big reveals about his past and personal life and where he comes from. There's still a lot of procedural stuff, including the revisiting of an old tradition at the station, which is a fun episode," he added. Interestingly, looks like Rookie Blue is expanding its cast members in the person of "Being Erica" star Erin Karpluk, who is set to make her debut on the show in the second half of the season. "'Being Erica' was a great show, created by one of my dear friends [Jana Sinyor]," show executive producer Tassie Cameron told TVLine. "I've always been looking for a chance to het [Karpluk] on our show, and we finally did. So that's very exciting." Meanwhile, aside from Karpluk, Canadian star Stacey Farber is also joining the show this season. Farber is famous for playing Ellie Nash in "Degrassi: The Next Generation" and she is now set to make her debut in the ABC series as a customer in a coffee shop who ends up pulling a gun on two of the workers. Fortunately, Dov and Andy will be there when this happens, and the two will notice right away that there's something strange with Farber's character. What could it be? The official synopsis of Rookie Blue season 5 episode 1 reads: "In the wake of Frank Best's dismissal, Inspector Jarvis promotes a reluctant Oliver to Acting Staff Sergeant. Today is also the day 15 Division gets a new rookie, Duncan Moore - an infuriating, eager, and connected millennial. Andy is up for the challenge and convinces Oliver to make her Duncan's Training Officer. But she may have acted too quickly. When Andy and Duncan end up as the first responders on a messy downtown homicide at a pawnshop, Andy has to try to show Duncan the ropes, while preventing him from compromising the case, himself, and his fellow officers.
