The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently engaged in Kevin Love trade talks, but they could strike another deal that could boost their title chances next season.
According to Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders, the Cavaliers could make a push to acquire Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders to shore up their frontline, which is currently composed of Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson, and Brendan Haywood.
Sanders had a disappointing year last season as he was slowed down by injuries. After almost averaging in double-double during the 2012-13 season, the defensive-minded center averaged just 7.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in 23 games last season.
But while Sanders, who posted 1.7 blocks per game last season, struggled to stay healthy last season, the Bucks are expected to ask for heavy returns in any trade involving the 25-year-old center.
And if the Cavaliers are indeed serious in acquiring Sanders, a trade package involving Dion Waiters and Anthony Bennett could be enough to convince the Bucks.
"Waiters is the other possibility, but even that doesn't get it done for me. Waiters and Bennett? MAYBE that gets it done if I'm the Bucks," Duncan wrote.
Bennett, the 2013 first overall pick, struggled mightily in his rookie season, but has shown improved confidence in the recently-concluded NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Waiters, on the other hand, has been developing into one of the best scorers in the league today as he averaged 15.9 points in 29.6 minutes per game last season.
Trading Waiters might look too costly for the Cavaliers at this point, Cleveland can afford to move the 2012 fourth overall pick now that they have LeBron James to shoulder the scoring load for the Cavs moving forward as noted by FanSided.
"The Cleveland Cavaliers don't need to make a move to be a threat in the Eastern Conference, but with Dion Waiters' scoring ability no longer needed there have been rumors suggesting he could be traded," FanSided noted.
Getting Sanders while losing Waiters and Bennett might look like a step backward for the Cavaliers, but the deal makes sense if they are to acquire Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves via a trade package involving 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins.
