Juan Manuel Marquez knows Manny Pacquiao very well after engaging in four fights before, and the Mexican boxing icon believes that his longtime rival will emerge victorious in his upcoming fight.
Pacquiao, who lost to Marquez in their fourth showdown in December 2012, will defend his World Boxing Organization welterweight title against Chris Algieri on November 22 at the Venetian Resort & Casino in Macau.
In an interview with BoxingScene, Marquez said that Algieri is a strong and very durable fighter, but the 40-year-old Mexican said that the reigning WBO light welterweight champion doesn't have the skills to beat Pacquiao.
"He barely has a chance to win," Marquez said of Algieri's chances against Pacquiao. "Algieri is strong and he's durable. He has also has boxing ability, as he's shown against Ruslan Provodnikov - but he doesn't have the style to beat Pacquiao, who has great speed and power."
Marquez added that a knockout win is not out of the equation because of Pacquiao's advantage against Algieri, who earned a shot at the former pound-for-pound king after winning against Ruslan Provodnikov in June.
"I believe that Pacquiao can win by knockout," Marquez said.
In a separate interview, trainer Freddie Roach also expressed confidence that Pacquiao can score a knockout win against the Huntington, New York native.
Roach said that Algieri is a tall and strong boxer, but the Hall of Fame trainer insisted that the 30-year-old "is nothing special" - the reason why they are planning to press in the hope of scoring a stoppage win.
Algieri, who holds a perfect 20-0 record with eight knockouts, previously said that he will also go for the kill in the upcoming fight, saying that a knockout win is possible, considering the fact that three of Pacquiao's five defeats came by way of knockouts.
"Manny has five losses and three of them are stoppages," Algieri previously said. "It's definitely not out of the question. I was saying even with the Provodnikov fight. As good as his chin is, I didn't think a stoppage was out of the question in that fight. I think things changed because of the eye but I don't doubt that if we fought again that a knockout wouldn't be there."
