An Alabama alligator hunting family has just got lucky in finding the biggest catch this season.
In an attempt to set the record for the biggest catch ever in the state, an Alabama alligator hunting family tried their best to find a monstrous reptile, catch it and then legally kill it, AL.com first reported.
According to the report, the catch of a lifetime of the Alabama alligator hunting family measures 15 feet long and weighs more than 1,000 pounds.
The beast was so large, the proud family of reptile hunters had to enlist special bulky equipment to pull the gator from the south Alabama waters early Saturday amid the alligator hunting season.
Upon catching the huge reptile, the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries biologists quickly measured the family's entry for the record, and they found out that the alligator spans about 15 feet.
While measuring the monster was quite easy for the team, weighing the behemoth posed a challenge to everyone at the scene.
In their first attempt to identify the weight of the gator, the winch assembly they used in hoisting the reptile off the ground was completely destroyed, so they instead used a backhoe to lift the gator.
It was later on confirmed that the Alabama alligator hunting season's biggest catch weighs 1,011.5 pounds.
Apart from setting a record for the biggest catch, the reptile caught by the Alabama alligator hunting family also made history by being the largest gator to be legally killed by an Alabama hunter, according to The Associated Press.
The record-holder family comprises Mandy and John Stokes, Kevin Jenkins and his two kids: Savannah, 16, and Parker, 14.
"Truthfully, after I saw the Fancher Gator, in my mind I was thinking there's no way we can catch anything bigger than that," Mandy said of their biggest catch ever. "When I finally saw it ... the main thing I remembered was the size of its feet. When I saw the size of the foot on this one, I knew it was a good one."
It can be noted that back in 2011, Keith Fancher set the record for pulling a 14-ioot, 2-inch, 838-pound alligator from the Alabama River. At the time, it was also the largest gator to be legitimately killed by an Alabama hunter during the Alabama alligator hunting season, noted New York Daily News.
