Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray moved closer to setting up a quarter-final date in the 2014 US Open tennis tournament after winning against their respective opponents on Saturday in New York.
Djokovic, who is looking to win his second US Open title, moved on to the fourth round after defeating local favorite Sam Querrey 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Flushing Meadows.
The top-seeded superstar built a commanding 5-0 lead in the first set and did not look back from then on en route to the easy win, which was his eighth win in nine matches against Querrey.
"I played very solid, from the first to the last point. I am thrilled," Djokovic said via US Open 2014 website.
Murray, on the other hand, also rolled on to the next round with a hard-earned win against Andrey Kuznetsov 6-1, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 in their third-round match.
Murray, the 2012 US Open champion, had a great start and looked poise to score a straight-set win, but the unseeded Russian stole a set in third before the eighth-seeded Britain sealed the win in the fourth set.
"I got off to a good start, then had a bit of a cushion when he started to get back in the match," Murray said. "I just tried to stay solid in the fourth set and thankfully it paid off."
Murray will next face either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Pablo Carreno Busta, while Djokovic will go up against either John Isner or Phillip Kohlschreiber. If both of them win in their fourth round, Djokovic and Murray will meet in the quarterfinals, which will be a rematch of the 2012 final.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova crashed out of the tournament after absorbing a stunning 6-4, 6-4 loss to qualifier Aleksandra Krunic, who admitted after the match that she did not expect to win against her third-seeded opponent.
"It was an honor for me to be in the same court with Petra. Of course I didn't expect to win." Krunic admitted. "Of course I was hoping at least to win a set but I managed to win a match somehow."
