Urban Outfitters did it again! It launched the Kent State University shirt that has faux blood stain placed on the shirt. This time it went over the top in order to look rebellious.
The sweatshirt was offered on the store and priced at $129. It is clear that Urban Outfitters is making a reference to that of the horrific killing in 1970 that involves four students. They were protesting against the Vietnam War. The specific item was already sold out as specified on the company's website.
The officials of the said university expressed their rage regarding the launching of the shirt.
"We take great offense to a company using our pain for their publicity and profit. This item is beyond poor taste and trivializes a loss of life that still hurts the Kent State community today," as stated on Kent State University statement.
Then, Urban Outfitters made a public apology via Twitter. It was posted on Monday around 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, "was never our intention to allude to the tragic events that took place at Kent State in 1970 and we are extremely saddened that this item was perceived as such."
Not only the sweatshirt caught the attention of the officials of Kent State University but also the netizens. There have been various reactions coming from people all over social media.
@lainnafader posted this, "Urban Outfitters is selling what looks like a bloody Kent State sweatshirt, so distasteful."
@danadearmood suggested to have a boycott, "Yet another reason to boycott @UrbanOutfitters they're selling a vintage blood spattered kent state sweatshirt."
It has been Urban Outfitters trademark of selling clothes that will stir up rebellion. They even release clothes in the past that relates to that of addiction, Holocaust, anorexia, among others.
